Full-time work and family time are my focuses these days, however I do my best to make time for other things.

I’m married, have a beautiful daughter and am the Chief Information Security Officer for a small non-profit software company in Burlington, MA.

I’m a Red Hat Certified Engineer and CompTIA Network+ Certified; CISSP is next on the list.

Well, that’s all!

Some tech stuff

With Keira being a TV addict, I needed a way to get all of her shows available all the time – on any TV that she may be near.

We have TiVO & a DVR, but they fill up, so here’s what I’ve been doing.

TiVO records her shows. TiVO Desktop is running on a Windows XP Virtual Machine on my MacPro.  TiVO desktop copies the shows to a shared hard drive, where I use my Windows7 Virtual Machine – which has a program to turn the files from .tivo to .mpg.

After that’s done, they go back to the shared hard disk & the .tivo files go buh-bye.

Then, I’ll copy the .mpgs to an external Western Digital MyPassport – that connects to a WD TV box, which plugs into the TV.

Confused?  Either way, it works.

Soon, there’ll be an AppleTV here.  That means that all of my .mpg files will have to be .mp4 files – and loaded into iTunes.  Not now, but soon – I think.
